Exotic pets often hide illness—and they can decline quickly once symptoms show. Exotic Pet ER provides exotic-focused urgent and emergency care for common companion exotics across the East Bay. If you’re unsure whether we can help, call first and we’ll guide you.
Common Patients:

Rabbits can go downhill fast when they stop eating. We commonly see GI stasis, painful dental issues, and urgent cases that need quick stabilization or surgery planning.

Small mammals often hide illness until it’s advanced. If your pet isn’t eating, is breathing differently, or you notice swelling, pain, or sudden weakness, we can evaluate and treat promptly.

Birds are experts at masking symptoms- so changes can become serious quickly. We frequently treat breathing distress, weakness, injuries, and “not acting right” concerns with careful, exotic-focused triage.

Backyard birds can develop urgent issues that need fast help. We commonly see egg-laying complications, wounds, limping, and sudden illness, and we’ll give you clear next steps for care.

Reptiles and amphibians can look “fine” until they aren’t. If there’s lethargy, not eating, abnormal swelling, injury, shedding problems, or signs of infection, we’ll assess the situation and guide treatment.
If you have an exotic species not listed here, call us. We’ll let you know whether we can help, and if not, we’ll guide you to the best next step.

Contact us urgently if your pet is: not eating, very weak, breathing fast/open-mouth breathing, bleeding, suddenly swollen, unable to stand, having seizures, straining to pass stool/urine/eggs, or injured.
Limited capacity—calling first helps us direct you faster.
