Dr. Tino Luehman graduated from the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine in 2014. She is also certified in veterinary acupuncture and brings a uniquely wide academic background to her work, with degrees spanning Psychology, Geography & Environmental Systems, and Biology.
Before veterinary school, Dr. Luehman worked as a veterinary technician and assistant for eleven years, building the hands-on experience that matters most in emergency medicine - especially when patients are fragile, stressed, or declining quickly.
Dr. Luehman chose emergency medicine because she personally experienced how hard it can be to find excellent nighttime and after-hours care for beloved pets - including birds and bunnies. Today, she thrives in emergency settings and is known for calm decision-making, clear communication, and a strong surgical skill set.
Dr. Luehman is a “night owl” by nature and excels in emergency and urgent care. While she has broad emergency experience, Exotic Pet ER is designed to serve exotic families - especially when something feels urgent and you need answers.
Her clinical interests include emergency care for bunnies, birds, and small pocket pets, and she especially enjoys surgery.
She performs a variety of soft tissue surgical procedures and has extensive experience with rabbit and exotic cases including:
Liver lobe torsions
Gastrointestinal blockages
Jaw abscesses in rabbits
And other urgent surgical conditions where timing matters

Outside the clinic, Dr. Luehman works with exotic/small pocket pet and bird rescue groups in the area. She and her husband share their home with foster rabbits and birds, many with chronic medical needs or disabilities - so she understands both the medical and emotional side of caring for fragile animals.
Exotic pets can hide symptoms until they’re serious.
If you’re concerned, call now - we’ll help you understand urgency, confirm availability, and guide next steps.
