Common Patients:

Rabbits can go downhill fast when they stop eating. We commonly see GI stasis, painful dental issues, and urgent cases that need quick stabilization or surgery planning.

Small mammals often hide illness until it’s advanced. If your pet isn’t eating, is breathing differently, or you notice swelling, pain, or sudden weakness, we can evaluate and treat promptly.

Birds are experts at masking symptoms- so changes can become serious quickly. We frequently treat breathing distress, weakness, injuries, and “not acting right” concerns with careful, exotic-focused triage.

Backyard birds can develop urgent issues that need fast help. We commonly see egg-laying complications, wounds, limping, and sudden illness, and we’ll give you clear next steps for care.

Reptiles and amphibians can look “fine” until they aren’t. If there’s lethargy, not eating, abnormal swelling, injury, shedding problems, or signs of infection, we’ll assess the situation and guide treatment.

When your rabbit, bird, reptile, or small mammal isn’t eating, is weak, breathing differently, or injured, timing matters. We focus on stabilizing your pet, identifying the most likely causes, and starting treatment quickly. If your pet needs advanced hospitalization beyond our capacity, we’ll guide you to the right facility and help coordinate next steps.

Some exotic cases require more than medication - especially GI emergencies, abscesses, injuries, and certain reproductive complications. We perform select procedures and referral surgeries when appropriate for the case and species, with a straightforward plan and estimate before major steps whenever possible. For complex cases that need specialty equipment or longer monitoring, we coordinate referral care.

Not every visit is an emergency - sometimes you just need an experienced exotic vet you can trust. When scheduling allows, we offer limited wellness and off-hours services like rabbit spay/neuter, vaccines, and preventive care. Availability is limited, so contact us to request a slot.

When an exotic pet is sick, things can change quickly - and it’s not always easy to find a clinic that truly knows exotics. Exotic Pet ER is built to provide fast triage, thoughtful treatment, and clear recommendations for rabbits, birds, small mammals, reptiles, and amphibians.
We’ll explain what we’re seeing, what we recommend, and what it may cost - before major steps whenever possible. And if your pet needs a higher level of care than we can safely provide that day, we’ll tell you quickly and help guide the next move.

When you’re worried about an exotic pet, you need calm guidance and experienced care. Here’s the kind of feedback we aim to earn every day.

Not sure if your pet qualifies? Call - if it’s outside our scope, we’ll point you to the best next step.
Exotic pets can decline quickly. Call right away if your pet is: not eating, very weak, breathing fast/open-mouth breathing, bleeding, unable to stand, showing severe pain, having seizures, straining to urinate/defecate/lay eggs, or has sudden swelling or trauma.
It depends on availability and the severity of the case. We triage based on urgency and current capacity. Calling first helps us guide you immediately.
We have limited hospitalization capacity (currently a small number of cages). If your pet needs higher-level or longer monitoring than we can safely provide, we’ll recommend transfer and help coordinate.
